Next Random Function 25th April 2008. The theme for this month is 'Ambience' - think beatless, spatial, minimal, drone, noise.. DON'T think new-age ambient nonsense!
Welcome to Random Function
Random Function is a monthly experimental electronic music and sonic arts event at Bristol's Watershed Media Centre, established over the past 4 years. It isn't intended to be a 'programmed' event, but rather a flexible, open forum to help showcase experimental / electronic sound work in the Bristol/Bath area, and to bring like-minded people together. It's grown out of the new MA in Creative Music Technology run by Dr Joseph Hyde at Bath Spa University, but has since become a forum for experimental music in the south-west of England which is open to all. Bywords are improvisation, collaboration and community.
The first Random Function took place in October '03 as part of ResFest, the international digital film festival, and featured guest artist Kim Cascone. The second, in November, was part of onedotzero, the ICA's digital arts festival. The third, in January '04, took place as part of Sonic Arts Network's 'Hardware Hacking' event with Nic Collins. From February '04 it has become a regular monthly event.
